We all saw it coming. While we’ve enjoyed double-digit growth over the past few years, we are starting to see the deceleration, however, not yet a return to pre-covid levels. There are a few very well-known reasons for the slow in growth, including inflation across all industries and the return to summer travel, vacations and more that historically have impacted our sales.
I encourage you to check out the Point of Sales data report we have released this month with IRI. We can talk a lot about what we think is happening, but these reports truly communicate what is happening at the store level with our consumers.
However, there are also a number of reasons for sustaining the growth we have seen including but are not limited to the impact of working from home. Our industry has used the opportunity to connect with consumers, and showcase new varieties, new textures, colors, and new merchandising strategies.
This was reinforced this past week when I traveled to Medellín, Colombia for Chrysanthemum Week. It was an excellent visit, and I saw many of the varieties they’re looking to bring to consumers soon. The floral buyers from supermarkets were very excited and had excellent conversations with breeders and growers to explore possibilities for bringing them to market.
It was clear that the industry is deeply committed to bringing this same excitement to our consumers and I expect to see this continued at the Global Produce & Floral Show in October.
If you haven’t registered yet, please consider joining us and register now.
With many educational options during the Education Festival, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from some incredible speakers and, of course, the Expo will be buzzing. This is the best time of year to connect but also celebrate the great work that’s been done in our industry, and we’ll be doing both at the floral Reception which will be held Friday evening of the Global Show.
I want to thank all of you for your past support and look forward to celebrating our journey over the past 2 years!
Looking forward to seeing you all in October!
