Dr. Mindy Brashears Confirmed as USDA Under Secretary

The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) congratulates Dr. Mindy Brashears on her confirmation as USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety. Dr. Brashears brings deep scientific expertise, proven leadership, and a strong understanding of the food system at a critical time for public health and consumer confidence.

“Dr. Brashears’ confirmation is an important step forward for food safety leadership at USDA, filling a prolonged vacancy in this vital role,” IFPA Chief Science Officer Max Teplitski said. “Her deep understanding of the science of food safety, commitment to science-based decision-making, her first-hand experience as a business owner and her success overseeing complex inspection and regulatory programs will be valuable as the department advances efforts to protect public health. IFPA looks forward to continued collaboration with Dr. Brashears on food systems-wide approach for produce safety, strengthening food safety and environmental health partnerships with cattle and poultry operations, strengthening traceability throughout the entire supply chain, as well as supporting USDA’s work to strengthen food safety outcomes and support a safe, reliable food supply.”
