Sustainability continues to be top of mind across our industry, and not just in packaging. I wanted to take a moment to share a few reflections and updates as we look toward what’s next for floral.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent sustainability webinar! It was an energizing conversation with experts who helped break down the key tenants of regenerative agriculture, some of which you may already be doing!
But as we discussed in the webinar, sustainability isn’t just a singular effort. From climate change to regenerative practices, there’s a bigger picture we all need to consider. Sustainability is about ensuring our industry continues to grow beautifully, responsibly, and resiliently.
In case you missed the webinar, here are some key takeaways:
Regenerative is gaining momentum – and floral can join the movement!
- More brands are exploring regenerative organic certification, especially as part of grower partnerships. Even though we don’t often use terms like “regen ag” in floral, the concepts, such as healthy soil, smart water use, and long-term land stewardship, can impact our industry, and your business.
Policy matters, so let's keep the pressure on!
- Scaling regenerative practices will not happen on our good intentions alone. There is an increasing push to reward sustainable growers and brands. IFPA will continue to advocate in Washington, but change also needs a groundswell from our industry.
Everyone has a role to play!
- You don’t need to be an expert in sustainability to play your part. Maybe you or your growers are already practicing regen ag without calling it that. Maybe you can take the next step by choosing better packaging or initiating a conversation with your supplier. Small actions and behaviors add up, and even asking more thoughtful questions helps move us forward.
This month’s Consumer Trends Tracker echoes that sentiment, showing that shoppers are paying attention to the environmental impact of what they buy – including flowers. It’s a clear signal that sustainability is both good for the planet and for business!
We’re also keeping a close eye on upcoming tariff changes, with new deadlines expected from the administration at the end of August. IFPA is actively advocating for our floral members in D.C., but your voice matters too. Be sure to stay tuned to our updates. We will continue sharing what you need to know as these decisions unfold.
Thank you, as always, for your passion, your innovation, and your commitment to making this industry as sustainable as it is beautiful.
