I hope this note finds you well after a very full spring! I wanted to share a few fun highlights and key takeaways from a busy and energizing month in the floral world.
Floriexpo:
Earlier this month, I had the chance to attend Floriexpo in Ft. Lauderdale – and what a great few days it was! I connected with so many of you and had some really energizing conversations about what’s working, what’s changing, and where we’re headed next. One trend that stood out? An uptick in balloon sales in grocery stores, possibly thanks to fewer competing party stores. That’s a great opportunity to think creatively about pairing floral and balloons in ways that delight shoppers and boost sales.
Washington Conference:
Not long after Floriexpo, I was back in D.C. for The Washington Conference – where floral showed up in force! We had about 10 floral leaders join us to walk the Hill, speak up on trade tariffs and the farm bill, and make the case for funding USDA APHIS (so critical to keeping our supply chain moving). IFPA continues to work with Congress to identify opportunities for reauthorizing the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). However, it has become clear that the current tax reconciliation legislation will not serve as a vehicle for GSP reauthorization during this session of Congress. And because we know the power of flowers firsthand, we handed out 200 bouquets to congressional staffers, each one a little reminder of the joy our products bring. It was such a feel-good moment to watch faces light up with every bouquet shared!
What I’m taking away from this month:
- Floriexpo was a great reminder that staying connected and tuned into trends helps us all grow stronger.
- At The Washington Conference, we made sure the floral voice was heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.
- Flowers speak volumes, and sometimes advocacy looks like a beautiful bouquet in the hands of a policymaker.
Thank you, as always, for all the love and energy you pour into this industry. It’s a joy to represent floral alongside all of you.
With gratitude and blooms,
Colleen
