What Attendees Heard

A new voice on traceability at IFPA. Erik Larsen, IFPA's Director of Supply Chain, introduced his portfolio — traceability, data sharing, and the modernization of industry standards — and where he's taking it.
Why IFPA pushed back on delay. The association has long championed end-to-end traceability and opposed continued delays to FSMA 204, because robust traceability lets recalls be executed in hours, not days — and narrows their scope.
The last-mile problem is real. Case-by-case scanning at the wholesaler-distributor level is costly and error-prone, and it doesn't reflect how produce actually moves.
A pragmatic path forward: the WMS lot probability model. IFPA's proposed alternative method uses a Warehouse Management System to calculate and assign the Traceability Lot Code for last-mile shipments — a workable stepping stone toward 100% accurate traceability.
