Washington, DC – The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA), the largest and most diverse association serving the global fresh produce and floral supply chains, welcomes today’s joint statement by the EU and U.S. formalizing the trade framework agreement reached on July 27.
“Today’s announcement marks an important step in lowering trade tensions and strengthening transatlantic trade relations, offering opportunities for businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic. Of particular significance to IFPA members is the easing of barriers that have long affected the global produce supply chains. We continue to support active engagement between the United States and European Commission to ensure bidirectional trade that strengthens opportunities for growers, exporters, and distributors across the globe.
“Trade which allows for greater access of fruits and vegetables in both the U.S. and EU is vital to ensuring that consumers have reliable access to healthy, affordable products, and that trade flows remain stable and predictable.
“IFPA also welcomes the broader commitments from the EU to reduce tariffs and address non-tariff barriers, including closer cooperation on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards. Reducing these longstanding obstacles is critical to maintaining efficient supply chains and ensuring consumers on both sides of the Atlantic can enjoy a steady supply of fresh produce and floral products.
“As the EU and U.S. move forward with the implementation of this agreement, IFPA will continue to advocate for fair, open, and science-based trade standards that support economic resilience, food security, and public health.”

IFPA Supports New EU-US framework deal, Stresses Need to Ensure Produce Availability
Brussels, Belgium - The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA), the largest and most diverse international association serving the global fresh produce and floral supply chains, welcomed the announcement of a new EU-US trade framework and issued the following statement:
“Although more details are still being ironed out this is a positive step following crucial negotiations, helping to avoid further escalation and ensure greater stability in transatlantic trade.
“IFPA supports efforts to strengthen transatlantic cooperation and is encouraged by the renewed commitment to dialogue. Reaching an agreement is preferable to ongoing uncertainty or retaliatory measures, particularly for sectors that depend on predictable and open trade flows like fresh produce and floral.
“At the same time, important issues remain unresolved. The continued presence of tariffs and non-tariff barriers – including sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures – poses challenges for fresh produce and floral, where tariffs and non-tariff barriers directly affect access, affordability, and consumer health. IFPA maintains its long-standing position that a trade environment in which trade standards are fair, open, and science-based would better support efficient supply chains and ensure consumers maintain reliable and consistent access to fresh, healthy, and affordable products.
“As the agreement is being finalized, IFPA is closely monitoring developments and stands ready to support decision makers on both sides towards a solid agreement that ensures availability and affordability of fresh produce and floral products prioritizing food security, economic resilience, and public health.”
