The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) issued the following statement on the Trump Administration’s tariff exemptions for certain Canadian imports:
“The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) welcomes the Trump Administration’s decision to exempt certain packaging materials, agricultural equipment, and other products imported from Canada from additional tariffs. This action will provide important relief to businesses across the fresh produce supply chain, including growers, packers, and distributors that rely on specialized equipment and packaging materials that are often unavailable or difficult to replace through domestic suppliers.
“We applaud Senator Susan Collins for working with the Administration to secure these exemptions and appreciate the Administration’s recognition of the challenges facing the fresh produce industry. At a time when producers continue to face high input costs, reducing these additional expenses is a meaningful step toward strengthening domestic production and keeping fresh fruits and vegetables on American families' tables.
“IFPA looks forward to continuing to work with Congress and the Administration to advance practical trade policies that provide greater certainty for the specialty crop sector and support a strong, reliable North American fresh produce supply chain.”
