Floral Sales Increased in November, but Remained Below Year Ago Levels
By: Anne-Marie Roerink, President, 210 Analytics - December 2022

"As expected, November brought higher floral sales. The four weeks ending December 4th brought $444 million in floral sales, up from $394 in the four-week period prior. However, compared to the same quadweek period last year, floral sales could not hold the line and dropped by 4.8%.”
Much like other areas of the store, the dollar performance was boosted by substantial inflation. Unit sales dropped 7.6% versus the same quad-week period in 2021 — an improvement from the decline seen in the prior quad week. “According to the latest IRI consumer survey, 95% of grocery shoppers are worried about the rising grocery prices” Jones added, “and 78% are making changing to what they buy and where. This is impacting grocery departments around the store, including fresh produce and floral. That said, we are seeing shoppers make room in their wallets for special occasions, which may mean the holiday months will see enhanced consumer engagement.”
